Mombasa Open Tong-IL Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship to Host 42 Countries

The Kenya Tong-IL Moo-Do Federation is gearing up to host the 11th edition of the Mombasa Open Tong-IL Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship from December 9-20, 2023, in Mombasa, Kenya. This prestigious event, which holds World Championship status, is expected to draw participants from 42 countries, including Paraguay, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Brazil, Cyprus, Côte d’Ivoire, the Philippines, South Korea, Cambodia, Japan, the Republic of Congo, and Iran.

The main competition, open to Tong-IL Moo-Do practitioners and invited martial artists from disciplines such as Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Kung Fu, Aikido, Jiu-jitsu, Ninjutsu, Hapkido, Capoeira, Japanese Kendo, and Wushu, will take place from December 15-17 at the Aga Khan Academy multi-purpose hall. Competitors ranging from eight-year-old boys and girls to men and women up to 55 years old will showcase their skills and techniques in various categories, both individually and as teams.

“We are still expecting confirmation from more nations by the end of November,” said Master Clarence Mwakio, the national federation chairman, expressing his excitement about the event’s global appeal.

Tong-IL Moo-Do, a comprehensive unified martial art discipline originating from South Korea, has found a strong foothold in Kenya since its introduction in 1987. With a presence in seven regions (former provinces) and 14 counties, the sport continues to grow and expand across the country, maintaining a notable presence in major cities and towns.
